Exclusive insights from our analysis of more than 400 cohort applications

by Albert Sugiharto

We are happy to report that we have received over 400 applications — doubled from the past cohort — from individuals with diverse backgrounds and skill sets. In this article, we want to share some key insights and observations.

We have concluded the application phase for the BFG Superstars Program and are delighted to have received applications from across the globe, demonstrating global interest in our remote-first approach. Despite our European roots, our program has captured the attention of individuals from diverse regions. Our applicant pool represents over 70 nationalities, spanning Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, North America, and Latin America.

Compared to previous cohorts, we have noticed a significant shift in our applicant base. While most of the applicants are European — mostly from the DACH region (more than 30%), there has been a notable increase in Superstar aspirants from Africa (Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana) and Asia (India, China, and Singapore). We place immense value on the diversity of our cohort, as it enables us to gain fresh perspectives and collaborate in novel ways.

Similar to previous seasons, the majority of applicants are interested in assuming the role of CEO (66%), followed by potential CTOs (21%) and Analysts (13%). Although the principles of business development are transferable to the Web3 space, its technical requirements are new and quite complex. As the industry matures, we see more technical experts catching up with its development and bringing new perspectives and innovations into the space.

In terms of gender distribution, we are thrilled to see a diverse pool of applicants, with around 17% being female and several gender-diverse applicants Because of the underrepresentation of women in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry, we are actively encouraging talented and innovative female builders to join the Web3 space and become entrepreneurs.

The ongoing selection process will see 100 out of over 400 applicants making it to the interview stage, with 50 finalists set to be admitted into the program in mid-March. This brings the acceptance rate to around 13%, making this cohort even more competitive than the previous ones. Following the success of the previous seasons, we are looking forward to seeing the next generation of Web3 startup founders building exciting and innovative businesses!
